Get ready to show off your villainous side at Walt Disney World this summer! Disney recently announced Magic Kingdom’s Summer 2019 After Hours event will be “Disney Villains,” featuring all of the baddest Disney Characters.

Disney’s After Hours events have been pretty successful in the past, and this one is sure to be a crowd-pleaser with the showcase cast of characters that will be featured at the Magic Kingdom.

Although it’s a late-night event, you and your family are sure to have a wickedly good time enjoying the low crowd levels, complementary food and drinks, and the special merchandise that you can purchase to bring the magic back home with you.

So what do you need to know before going to this event? I’ll let you know the answers to some of the most common questions I get about the Villains After Hours event.

Is Disney Villains After Hours For Kids?

Yes. The kids can attend After Hours, too!  Tickets are available for all ages (and children under 3 won’t need a ticket to enter the park).

Just use your best judgement on if you think your kids can handle it or not. Remember that these are the “baddest of the bad” characters from your favorite Disney classics that have been playing in your living room all this time … and seeing them in person may frighten the younger crowd more easily than others. But, Disney does do a pretty good job keeping these characters at a distance and not making things too scary.

When Is Disney Villains After Hours?

Disney Villains After Hours takes place from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM on the following dates:

  • Thursday, June 6, 2019
  • Thursday, June 13, 2019
  • Thursday, June 20, 2019
  • Thursday, June 27, 2019
  • Monday, July 1, 2019
  • Thursday, July 11, 2019
  • Thursday, July 18, 2019
  • Thursday, July 25, 2019

How Much Do Disney After Hours Tickets Cost?

How Does Disney Villains After Hours Work?

After Hours begins at 9:00 PM. However, guests with Disney Villains After Hours tickets can enter the park at 7:00 PM on the night of the event, and have 2 hours to do things throughout the park that are not available during the After Hours event.

As you walk in, a Castmember will scan your MagicBand, and you’ll receive special wrist band to let the other Disney Castmembers know that you are part of the After Hours event (so they don’t try to escort you out of the park with the day guests).

Then, throughout the evening, you’ll have access to the after hours shows, a variety of complementary food and drink options, as well as lower than normal wait times for popular rides…

Catch the latest stage show at Cinderella Castle – Villains Unite the Night –  a 20 minute show starring Hades, Meg, The Queen, Maleficent, Jafar and other baddies.

During Disney Villains After Hours, you’ll also have access to 20+ rides throughout the park, and because the number of guests allowed in the park is limited, you’ll experience much shorter wait times on rides such as Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and more.

Event specific merchandise will be available for purchase at the various shops located around the park. Just be aware that Disney Villains After Hours merch is limited-time – so be sure to pick up the things you want, because in a “poof” the item(s) you were wanting could sell out.

And – don’t forget that your ticket includes free ice cream, snacks, popcorn, and bottled drinks. Treats will be themed and inspired by some of our favorite villains like Maleficent, The Queen, Cruella de Vil, and Hades. But, if you’re craving food that’s a little more substantial than just a snack – Disney will have other food and beverage items available for additional purchase throughout the event.

Can I Dress Up For Disney Villains After Hours?

Typically guests who are 14 years of age or older are not permitted to wear costumes of any kind…but during special events, you are able to dress up a bit… so the answer is “Yes,” but you will need to follow Disney’s costume rules…

General rules are:

  • No masks! But, you can wear hats
  • Layered costumes are discouraged
  • No realistic-looking weapons
  • No clothing with questionable language
  • Costumes cannot drag on the ground
  • Capes can only be worn if length is still above the waist
  • No excessively ripped or torn clothing

Disney reserves the right to search multiple layers of clothing if they deem it necessary.

Where Do You Meet Characters at Disney Villains After Hours?

Unfortunately, there are no character meet-ups during Disney Villains After Hours. Because these are the “baddest” characters… I don’t think Disney wants to open them up to any situation that may go awry.

You will, however, get to see Maleficent in dragon form blowing smoke and flames as her steampunk float creeps through the park.

I really enjoy after hours events like these. It just makes the park so much more personal and magical than during the day because you’re not rushing from fastpass to fastpass, while trying to eat, find the stroller, weave the crowds…. and the list goes on. Don’t let the $140 per person price tag scare you too much…  I’d say it does make sense if you think of it in terms of number of attractions rather than number of hours. You can definitely get more done at an After Hours event than you could in a whole day at Magic Kingdom. That said, if you’re a family visiting WDW and are short on time, this would probably be a great way for you to get your Disney fix quick.
